Visas for Travel to Ethiopia

Passport holders of all countries, except Ethiopian Passport holders, must apply for a Visa to enter Ethiopia.

Tourist Visas and Business Visas may be granted for visits of up to one month, three months, or six months, and under some circumstances Business Visas may be granted for one year on request (see the Visa Application form, information section). Six month Tourist Visas are only available to travellers of Ethiopian Origin.  Travellers going to Ethiopia to work or volunteer for must apply for a maximum Three month Business Visa, and supply a letter from the sponsoring organisation in Ethiopia. These Visas can be extended in Ethiopia after arrival.

The period of the visa begins on the date of issue, so please ensure the visa is valid from the date of issue until the final date of departure from Ethiopia.  Visa Extensions may be applied for at Immigration Offices in Addis Ababa or Dire Dawa. Multiple Tourist or Business Visas may be granted on production of a travel itinerary.

Please submit one copy of the Application form. Please print off a copy of the Visa Instruction form to make sure that you have submitted everything required.
